He is most known for directing and writing movies such as Life After Beth (2014), Joshy (2016), The Little Hours (2017), Horse Girl (2020), and Spin Me Round (2022), as well as co-writing I Heart Huckabees in 2004. He married actress and producer Aubrey Plaza in 2021.

Circumstances of his passing are unknown for now, and we will update the post when we gather more. Graduated from NYU Film School, Baena transferred to Los Angeles to start building his career, working as a production assistant to Robert Zemeckis on a number of those films before being promoted to assistant editor to writer-director David O.

Baena may be most recognized for co-writing I Heart Huckabees which was nominated for the 2004 Gotham Award for Best Feature. In 2014, he wrote and directed Life After Beth, which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize and was then distributed by A24. After this, he wrote and directed Joshy that screened at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and received another nomination for the Grand Jury Prize after it was distributed by Lionsgate. Baena also wrote and directed The Little Hours that also garnered a nomination for the Audience Award in the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival. It was released theatrically as well. In 2020, Baena co-wrote, directed, and produced Horse Girl which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was released on Netflix shortly after. He also wrote, directed, and produced Spin Me Round which premiered at the 2022 South by Southwest Film Festival, which was released by IFC Films.


On television, Baena created, wrote, directed and executive produced the Showtime series, Cinema Toast.


Those left to survive Baena include; wife Aubrey Plaza, mother Barbara Stern and stepfather Roger Stern, father Scott Baena, stepmother Michelle Baena, brother Brad Baena and stepsister and stepbrother Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman.
