Who were the victims of the New Orleans attack?
At least 15 people are dead and dozens injured after a New Year's Day attack in New Orleans' French Quarter. The FBI has identified the suspect as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas resident and U.S. Army veteran. Jabbar drove a rented electric Ford pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street and was killed in a subsequent shootout with police. An ISIS flag was found in his vehicle, and the authorities are investigating the incident as a possible act of terrorism. Among the victims are:
Martin "Tiger" Bech: A former Princeton University football player, remembered as a "ferocious competitor with endless energy, a beloved teammate, and a caring friend."
Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux: A would-be nurse at 18 years old. This month was the start of her training.
Reggie Hunter : A 37-year-old manager of a convenience store and a father of two who loved his family and played very competitively in game nights.
Nicole Perez : Age 27. Deli store manager. Has a four-year-old son named Melvin. Nicole was an outstanding worker, often bringing her little boy with her to work so she could teach him in between the duties she was performing at the deli.
Matthew Tenedorio: 25. Audio-visual technician. Always calm and had that great contagious laughter that spreads cheerfulness in anyone's atmosphere.
The authorities will continue their pursuit of understanding the attacks and what exactly motivated Jabbar, as well as whether his actions were possibly connected to terrorists. The communities are mourning three individuals, known for their very unique contributions as well as all the joy in their families' and friends' lives.
