Pahalgam attack and war started between Pakistan vs India

The recent escalation between India and Pakistan was triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, marking one of the most severe confrontations between the two nations in decades.

April 22, 2025 – Pahalgam Attack

Five armed militants attacked tourists in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 Hindu tourists, a Christian tourist, and a local Muslim.  The assailants, reportedly affiliated with the Islamic Resistance Front—a group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba—specifically targeted non-Muslims, verifying identities before opening fire.

April 23–30, 2025 – Diplomatic Fallout

In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani diplomats, and closed the Attari–Wagah border.  Pakistan retaliated by suspending the 1972 Shimla Agreement, closing its airspace to Indian aircraft, and halting trade with India.

May 6, 2025 – Operation Sindoor

India launched "Operation Sindoor," conducting missile strikes on nine terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke.

May 10, 2025 – Ceasefire Agreement

After intense international diplomatic efforts, including mediation by U.S. President Donald Trump, India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire.  However, reports soon emerged of continued drone strikes, missile attacks, and blasts across the border, with each side accusing the other of ceasefire violations.

📊 Casualties and Impact

India: At least 16 civilians killed and 59 wounded.

Pakistan: Approximately 33 civilians killed and 58 wounded.

Military Losses: Both sides reported the downing of aircraft and destruction of military assets, including India's confirmation of limited damage to its airbases due to Pakistani attacks.

🌐 International Response

Global powers, including the U.S., China, and members of the G7, have expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions.  China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged both nations to exercise restraint and emphasized that "war was not India's choice," as conveyed by India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

🔍 Current Status

Despite the ceasefire agreement, the situation remains volatile, with both nations accusing each other of violations.  The international community continues to monitor the developments closely, urging both sides to engage in dialogue and prevent further escalation.
